Famously Mexican, the Piñata is actually believed to originate from Ancient Chinese culture, being used during New Year celebrations. It arrived to Europe much later on and subsequently into the Americas used primarily for religious events. Mexicans took the idea and ran with it, pushing the boundaries of the artform and finding a sweet way to insult their enemies.
The first and the most classic Mexican Piñatas were shaped like stars, perhaps specifically the North Star. This allusion to the cosmos is what inspired us to create a free-floating Piñata in its natural environment - amongst the stars.
